Bio

 

With expertise in microeconomics and econometrics, Dr. Caves has more than 15 years of experience in antitrust, class actions, merger analysis, sector-specific regulation, survey analysis, consumer product litigation and more. He has applied his expertise to a variety of industries, including cable, broadcasting, energy, finance, freight rail, Internet & tech platforms, healthcare, labor markets, motor vehicles, wireless and wireline networks, payment cards, PCs, pharmaceuticals, and professional sports. In 2023, Dr. Caves received the American Antitrust Institute’s Award for Outstanding Antitrust Litigation Achievement in Economics.

Dr. Caves has served as a testifying expert in U.S. district court, before Federal regulators, and in arbitration. He is the architect of complex economic and econometric models undergirding a range of high-profile cases; examples include JUUL Labs Consumer LitigationGSE Bonds Antitrust LitigationForeign Exchange Antitrust LitigationIn re: MacBook Keyboard, and U.S. v. Dr. Caves’ work has been published in popular outlets, law journals and peer-reviewed economics journals, such as The Atlantic, Antitrust, Communications & Strategies, Competition Policy International, Econometrica, The Economist, George Mason Law Review, Information Economics & Policy, IT Business Edge, Journal of Competition Law & Economics, Journal of Sports Economics, Labor Law Journal, Research in Law & Economics, and the Review of Network Economics. He has published two book chapters, and has served on the editorial advisory board of the Journal of Transportation Law, Logistics, & Policy.

Dr. Caves is co-developer of the Ackerberg-Caves-Frazer (ACF) algorithm, an econometric technique widely taught in economics and integrated into STATA, a leading statistical software package.

Dr. Caves earned his bachelor’s in economics from Haverford College, and his masters and doctorate in economics with a focus in industrial organization and econometrics from the University of California at Los Angeles in 2005.

Bio

Barbara Simons is the Executive Administrator for McClave + Associates (MC+A). Since joining MC+A in 1982 (originally known as Infotech Consulting), she has served in a variety of capacities. Simons has held positions such as Data Entry Specialist, Senior Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer, and Senior Project Assistant to the President. Additionally, she serves as the MC+A business liaison, representing the team for internal and external daily operations.

Her specialties include client interaction, database creation, data entry and verification, data mining, industry research pertaining to case development, team support and coordination of tasks and events.

Simons earned her Associate of Arts degree from Santa Fe College with a focus in business and education.

Bio

Joe Bloom joined McClave + Associates, previously known as Infotech Consulting, in 1983 as a Programmer/Analyst. Since then, he has worked as a Consultant Analyst, and now is a Senior Consultant.

Bloom has worked on a wide variety of litigation support cases, which have varied from the determination of liability and the calculation of damages in antitrust cases to the estimation of lost profits in business interference cases. Mr. Bloom specializes in civil litigation damage estimation, statistical programming, and analysis, employment discrimination analysis (liability and damages), and database management.

Bloom received both his Bachelor of Arts in Statistics and his Bachelor of Science in Computer and Information Sciences from the University of Florida.

Bio

Cindy Hewitt is the Director of Data Analysis for Infotech Consulting, working in the Consulting Division since 1984. Her specialty is the use of statistics to develop solutions to a wide variety of problems. She has extensive experience in litigation services applied to such fields as environmental regulation, antitrust, discrimination, health care management, and business infringement. She has been qualified as an expert witness, providing testimony for hearing proceedings and federal court.

Prior to joining Infotech Consulting, Ms. Hewitt worked as a Biostatistician, working with other scientists at the National Center for Toxicological Research. She worked on experimental studies for the Food and Drug Administration testing, the health effects of various chemicals and drugs.

Hewitt received her Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics in 1980 from the University of Florida and continued at that institution to receive her Master of Statistics in 1982.

Infotech Consulting is honored to have Dr. Robert Lanzillotti as an Associate Consultant. Dr. Lanzillotti’s career spans six decades and has placed him in the highest esteem as an expert consultant, scholar and educator.

Dr. Lanzillotti has served as an economic consultant on antitrust and regulatory matters to many major U.S. corporations, including Alcoa, Anheuser-Busch, Armstrong Cork, Bethlehem Steel, CSX Corp., Gulf Oil, General Motors, General Electric, W. R. Grace, International Materials Corp., Hughes Helicopters, Jaguar Motor Company, Toyota Motor Corp., and Imperial Chemicals, Inc.

President Nixon appointed him to the U.S. Price Commission in 1971. He also has consulted for a number of U.S. and foreign governmental entities, including the United Arab Emirates, the U.S. Government Accounting Office, the Comptroller General, the U.S. Department of Commerce, and the U.S. Census Bureau.

Dr. Lanzillotti is the Dean Emeritus of the College of Business Administration at the University of Florida, Eminent Scholar Chair in American Economic Institutions, and Emeritus and Director of the Public Policy Research Center. He has served as consultant to several Florida Governors in numerous roles, including Chairman of Governor Askew’s economic advisory board, Chairman of Governor Graham’s Unitary Tax Study Commission, member of the advisory boards of the U.S. Comptroller of the Currency and the Secretary of Commerce, and consultant to the U.S. Attorney General and the Federal Trade Commission on antitrust matters. He has served as economic consultant to more than a dozen state attorneys general on antitrust matters. He has testified on matters of national economic policy before U.S. Senate and House committees, has served as director of many financial institutions and industrial companies, was a NATO research fellow, and has authored numerous books and articles.

During his career, Dr. Lanzillotti has held several positions in the academic field. He was the Dean of the University of Florida Graduate School of Business from 1969 to 1986. He was adjunct professor of Economics at Cornell University, Professor and Chairman of the Economics Department at Michigan State University, Professor of Economics at Washington State University, and held a fellowship in Economic Statistics at the University of California at Berkeley.

Dr. Lanzillotti has published more than 75 articles in peer reviewed economic and law journals, as well as more than one dozen books and sections of books on economics and regulatory topics. He has served as reviewer for the National Science Foundation and the editors of a number of economics and law journals. Dr. Lanzillotti served as member of the U.S. Price Commission (by Presidential Appointment) from 1971-73.

Dr. Lanzillotti holds honorary degrees from the University of Tampa and Florida Institute of Technology. He is Past President of the International Schumpeter Society and is a member of the Antitrust Committee of the American Bar Association. He was an honorary member of the Florida Council of 100 from 1973 to 1996, and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Beta Gamma Sigma, Omnicron Delta Kappa, and Florida Blue Key (Distinguished Faculty).

Dr. Lanzillotti held directorships in a number of U.S. Corporations, including the Jim Walter Corporation, C & S Florida Bank Corp., Florida Progress Corp., Florida Power Corp., First City Bank of Gainesville, Bank at Ormond Beach, Catalina Corp., Kangaroo Products Co., and Florida First Service Corp. He currently is a member of the board of the Southeast Tissue Bank and the University of Florida Foundation.

Dr. Lanzillotti served in the United States Navy for two years and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He earned two Bronze Stars and served in European and Pacific theaters. He attended Dartmouth College, holds a Doctorate from the University of California at Berkeley, and a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Economics from American University.
